AAS NSW division is inviting you to the next technical talk by Dr Simon Kean from Spoke Acoustics to present on the Glebe Island and White Bay Draft Port Noise Policy.

Presentation

The Glebe Island and White Bay Draft Port Noise Policy has been developed for the Port Authority of NSW by Dr Simon Kean (Director, Spoke Acoustics Pty Ltd). The aim of the Policy is to manage noise proactively, consistently and fairly across port operations in Glebe Island and White Bay. This policy is the first of its kind in Australia and aims to provide certainty about noise management for the community, port users and other stakeholders.

It has been developed in response to an increase in shipping movements at the port. This increased demand is in part to supply the Sydney city and the NSW Government’s major infrastructure projects with construction materials (including sand to make concrete). The Port Noise Policy addresses gaps in how vessel noise is managed relative to other forms of vehicles and undertakes this in accordance with the NSW Environment Protection Authority's (EPA) Noise Policy for Industry (NPfI). It is also the first document, developed in consultation with the EPA, that outlines the management and environmental assessment processes for existing and future tenants under the NPfI’s new noise precinct approach.
